If referring to Ozempic, it is more commonly prescribed for type 2 diabetes. Therapy is usually started at 0.25 mg once weekly for 4 weeks, then increased to 0.5 mg once weekly. Further increases to 1 mg or 2 mg are possible only by a physician’s decision.
It is not recommended to start immediately with high doses such as 1 mg, 1.7 mg, or 2.4 mg. This may significantly increase the risk of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and other side effects. Semaglutide should also not be combined independently with other GLP-1 medications or used in several forms at the same time.
